Portrait Halloween 2009

Hey, my name is Garrett Bluma.

I’ve been writing software for a long time now. And it’s been great, I love every minute of it.

I love pushing the limits of what can be done with interfaces. For me, making software used to be about building something amazingly complex. But software really shouldn’t be like that— It should be simple, able to adapt to human behavior, and be a joy to use. And, I’m convinced that’s impossible to reach without feedback from the people using the software.

I have a strong technical background in software development, web development, computer science, and networking. I am currently pursuing even more of it by going back to school for my masters in Computer Information Systems. It’s true. I’m a die-hard coder/hacker, but I’m not the shut-in type.

I also apply other, less technical, skills into my work which have added that last 10 percent—things like art, psychology, customer service and writing. That last one is the reason I have a blog—to improve as a writer and communicator. (Which is amazingly hard)
